We all know the importance of recycling, we watch hundreds of videos all over social media regarding the detrimental effects of plastic not being recycled and sadly floating around our oceans. Recycling the odd bottle isn’t going to change the world if you don’t do it consistently. But is it just bottles, tins and a couple of bills you can recycle? No. We should be recycling batteries, used oil and technology too. It’s important to recycle batteries because they contain heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium and nickel. To find your nearest battery recycling facilities, enter your postcode into this Recycling Locator tool – https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/batteries-1
Here’s an example of my search, over 30 places I can recycle my batteries in less than a mile!
2) Reduce The Amount Of Meat You Eat
Even if it is for one day a week, make a commitment to yourself to reduce your meat and dairy consumption to make the world a better place. Roughly 24% of global greenhouse gas emissions are from agriculture or the cultivation of crops and livestock. The livestock sector generates as much greenhouse emissions as all cars, vans and lorries combined. This should be a massive concern to all of us right?Even if it is for one day a week, make a commitment to yourself to reduce your meat and dairy consumption to make the world a better place. How you can contribute positively?
How you can contribute positively?
– Eat more plant-based foods
– Buy sustainable and organic produce
– Tell your friends and family and educate them too (it will surprise you how unaware people are)
3) Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags that get thrown out end up all over our planet and again, in our oceans Plastic bags are a massive threat to animals, causing suffocation for animals that sadly get stuck inside of them or may even eat the plastic bags by mistaking them for food. Whatever you’re shopping for, be sure to use a reusable bag to reduce litter and those poor animals getting hold of them.
4) SAVE Water
Whether you’re brushing your teeth or washing the dishes, think about how much water you’re using. Is it necessary to keep the tap running constantly for 5 minutes? Every time you turn off that tap, you’re doing something good! It’s the little things like turning the shower on when you get in, instead of waiting 5 minutes for it to ‘warm up’.
Water is wasted more frequently than we can see, keep a check on the amount you’re using and save some cash at the same time!
5) When You’re Looking To Purchase ANYTHING, Shop And Support Eco-Friendly And Ethical Companies
This is a big one for us considering Gypsy Spirit is an eco-friendly womenswear brand. We have mentioned previously how harmful fashion is to our environment, it simply doesn’t need to be the case anymore. 9/10 people pledge to help the environment and make the world a better place yet unfortunately a very small amount of people take the relevant actions to contribute positively. Wearing cheap synthetic fabrics like polyester which is PLASTIC is harmful to the environment and to our oceans so think about what you’re buying when you buy your next outfit.
Look out for companies that donate some of their revenue back to a good cause. This is important and again helping our environment.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE. BE THE CHANGE.
